Commission Internationale de Microflore du Paléozoique (C.I.M.P.). C.I.M.P. is an international federation of palynologists interested in Palaeozoic palynology. The commission aims to advance knowledge in palynology and related subjects by the promotion of international co-operation and meetings between scientists of all regions and countries.

CORDIS, Community Research and Development Information Service, Luxembourg (an initiative of the European Commission). CORDIS provides information about Research and Development sponsored and supported by the European Union. European Geosciences Union (EGU). Established by the Councils of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG). EGU is a dynamic, innovative, and interdisciplinary learned association devoted to the promotion of the sciences of the Earth and its environment and the cooperation between scientists.

EUROPEAN GROUP OF CHAROPHYTE SPECIALISTS (G.E.C.): An informal association of specialists for charophyte algae (paleontologists and botanists) from European countries.

European Society for Evolutionary Biology. The objectives of the Society are to support the study of organic evolution and the integration of those scientific fields that are concerned with evolution: molecular and microbial evolution, behaviour, genetics, ecology, life histories, development, paleontology, systematics and morphology.

Evolution of Terrestrial Ecosystems Program (ETE). The ETE Consortium was formed by a group of professional researchers in paleontology to oversee all aspects of the ETE Database, a computerized database for research in evolutionary paleoecology. The ETE Program is is affiliated with the Departments of Paleobiology and Anthropology (Human Origins Program) at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.

The Expert Center for Taxonomic Identification (ETI). ETI is a non governmental organisation in operational relations with UNESCO. Their mission is to develop and produce scientific and educational computer aided information systems, to improve the general access to, and to promote the broad use of taxonomic and biodiversity knowledge worldwide.

Green Plant Phylogeny Research Coordination Group (Deep Green). Understanding the Diversity of Plants. The purpose of the "Green Plant Phylogeny Research Coordination Group" is to facilitate or initiate interaction between distinct research groups that have independent foci yet entail some aspect of green plant phylogeny or systematics.

International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT). IAPT is dedicated to organismal biodiversity the extent, recognition, organization, evolution, and naming of plants and fungi, both living and fossil.

International Association of Wood Anatomists (IAWA)

International Center for Scientific Research. Links towards scientific societies, research institutes and universities all over the world wide web as well as a directory of researchers, sorted by topic.

International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS). ICS is the only organisation concerned with stratigraphy on a global scale. One of its major objectives are the establishment of a standard, globally applicable stratigraphic scale, which it seeks to achieve through the co-ordinated contributions of a network of Subcommissions and Working Groups with a specific, limited mandate.

International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology (ICCOP). The ICCP members are engaged in many different branches, fundamental and applied, of coal and organic petrology.

International Federation of Palynological Societies (IFPS). IFPS is a federation of regional, national, linguistic, and specialist palynological organizations of the world. Its goals are to advance knowledge in palynology and related subjects by promotion of international cooperation and sponsorship of regular meetings between palynologists of all countries and regions.

International "Fossil Algae" Association. The International "Fossil Algae" Association is a non-profit organization interested in promoting the study of fossil algae, e.g. taxonomy, morphology, biology, biostratigraphy, palaeo-ecology and mineralization.

The International Geological Correlation Programme (IGCP), UNESCO HQ, Paris. IGCP is a joint endeavour of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences).

International Humic Substances Society: The motto of IHSS is "To Advance the Knowledge, Research and Application of Humic Substances". For scientists with interest in humic substances in the coal, soil, and water sciences, and to provide opportunities for them to exchange ideas, skills, and viewpoints.

The International Nannoplankton Association (hosted by The Natural History Museum in London): INA is a semi-formal association of scientists worldwide who have an interest in living or fossil nannoplankton - including coccolithophores, nannoliths, and other nannofossils such as silicoflagellates and calcisphere.

International Organization for Plant Information (IOPI). IOPI manages a series of cooperative international projects that aim to create databases of plant taxonomic information.

! The International Organisation of Palaeobotany (IOP). While there are numerous regional associations of palaeontologists and paleobotanists, IOP is the only organization that encompasses palaeobotanists throughout the world.

International Organization of Plant Biosystematists

International Palaeontologial Association (I.P.A.). The aim of the I.P.A. is to promote and coordinate international cooperation in palaeontology, including palaeobotany and palaeozoology of all geological periods, and to encourage the integration and synthesis of all palaeontological knowledge.

The International Plant Taphonomy Meeting. The International Plant Taphonomy Meetings are informal workshops focusing on recent developments in the science of plant taphonomy.

The International Research Group on Charophytes (IRGC). The aims of IRGC are to promote and coordinate international cooperation in charophyte research, including living and fossil material of all geological periods, and to encourage the integration and synthesis of all aspects of both botanical and paleobotanical study of charophytes.

International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). IUBS is a non-governmental, non-profit organization to promote the study of biological sciences; to initiate, facilitate and coordinate research and other scientific activities that require international cooperation; to ensure the discussion and dissemination of the results of cooperative research, international conferences and to assist in the publication of their reports.

International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The IUGS is one of the largest and most active non-governmental scientific organizations in the world. IUGS promotes and encourages the study of geological problems, especially those of world-wide significance, and supports and facilitates international and interdisciplinary cooperation in the earth sciences. International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS). The ICS is the largest scientific body within the International Union of Geological Sciences. It is also the only organisation concerned with stratigraphy on a global scale.

The International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS). IUSS is the global union of soil scientists.

The Palaeobotanical Society, Lucknow, India. The object of the society is the promotion of palaeobotany and allied sciences. The Palaeobotanical Society is an affiliated society of the International Federation of Palynological Societies (IFPS) and the International Organization of Palaeobotany (IOP).

The Palaeontological Association. The Palaeontological Association is one of the most active and prominent of the numerous societies that today cater for palaeontological interests.

Curtis C. Bentley: The Paleobiological Fund. The Paleobiological Fund is established to support and enhance paleobiological and paleontological research and education in order to increase our knowledge about the evolution of all life forms and processes through fossil data.

The Paleontological Society. The Paleontological Society is an international organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of the science of paleontology. Go to:

Progressive Palaeontology (the Palaeontological Association): Progressive Palaeontology is an annual conference for postgraduate research students who wish to present their results at at any stage of their research.

The Society for Organic Petrology (TSOP). TSOP was established to consolidate and foster the organizational activities of scientists and engineers involved with coal petrology, kerogen petrology, organic geochemistry and related disciplines. This site is hosted by the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC). Improving preservation, conservation and management of natural history collections to ensure their continuing value to society.

Subcommission on Triassic Stratigraphy (STS). Under the auspicities of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS), the STS is charged with the establishment of a standard, globally applicable stratigraphic scale for the Triassic system.

The Systematics Association. The Systematics Association is commited to furthering all aspects of Systematic biology.

The Tertiary Research Group. The Tertiary Research Group is a London-based, specialist Geological Society, which brings together amateur and professional geologists with an interest in the Tertiary period worldwide.

Quaternary Research Association (QRA). QRA is an organisation comprising archaeologists, botanists, civil engineers, geographers, geologists, soil scientists, zoologists and others interested in research into the problems of the Quaternary. The majority of members reside in Great Britain, but membership also extends to most European countries, North America, Africa and Australasia.
