Stewart Austin and Helen O'Rourke (under the supervision of M. Lamberson) Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver: The Image Gallery. The collection contains images related to the earth and ocean sciences including some specialized subsets. A general search and a detailed search were created to serve the many needs of the users.

British Geological Survey: National Archive of Geological Photographs. The houses the National Archive of Geological Photographs (NAGP), comprising in excess of 100,000 fully-described images dedicated to the theme of earth sciences.

EarthRISE. Over the years since the first space flight, more than 200,000 photographs of the Earth have been taken by astronauts in orbit. The EarthRISE database is an online collection of over 100,000 of these images taken during the Space Shuttle flights.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena (NASA), California: SIR-C/X-SAR Space Radar Images of Earth. Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C/X-SAR) is a joint U.S.-German-Italian project that uses a highly sophisticated imaging radar to capture images of Earth that are useful to scientists across a great range of disciplines. The images are divided into nine categories for easier viewing.

The goal of this project is to digitize beautifully illustrated and botanically significant books in order to make them available to an international audience. NASA: Visible Earth. The goal of Visible Earth is to provide a consistently updated central catalog/collection point to the superset of Earth science-related visualizations and images. Images are accompanied by a description and information on file size and format, usually TIF and JPEG. Excellent!

NASA: BLUE MARBLE. View of the Earth from space. Useful as introductory slide for a presentation.

NASA: Planetary Photojournal. This service provide easy access to the publicly released images from various Solar System exploration programs. The system database is currently populated with approximately 910 images; more are being added every day. Great pictures and info on the planets and their moons.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Photo Collection. Over 5,000 public domain photographs and images, dating from the early 1800´s to the present.
